Sensual soap stars keep us glued to our televisions by steaming up our living rooms and libidos with sizzling stories of seduction. Brimming with juicy love scenes and sordid plot twists, some of the hottest, most compelling dramas come from daytime TV. But as the fall season hits, primetime generates the most heat and buzz. Which shows do daytime actors turn on at night to get their thrills? Four of today’s hottest young stars tell us what they’ll be watching and wearing to snuggle up to the groove tube this autumn.
Kevin Spirtas (Dr. Craig Wesley, Days of Our Lives) enjoys playing one of soap’s smoothest villains. “If there’s one show I never miss, it’s ER. It’s high drama with a strong ensemble cast.” And what new show does the foxy physician think will hit up the Nielsens this season? He’s placing his bet on The King of Queens (CBS) starring Leah Remini. “Hit!” he enthuses. “Bring on Leah! She’s the type of woman I find sexy but then they find all women sexy.”
Marita C. DeLeon (Joani Garza, The Young & the Restless) is like her character, “always looking for the goodness in people.” This girl-next-door is an avid fan of recently canceled Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman and claims primetime TV is lacking family programs as well as a Latin presence. “I’d die to be on Touched by an Angel,” she exclaims. DeLeon contends that the new sitcom Will & Grace (NBC), about a gay man and his best gal pal, will be successful. “It looks like a show that will enlighten and entertain,” she proclaims.
Adrienne Frantz (Amber Moore, The Bold & the Beautiful) aborted her college career to conquer the soaps. While quirky comedies like South Park and Third Rock from the Sun are her faves, her naughty character would be more inclined to cozy up to “MTV or Friends because of the hot guys.” For this season she has high hopes for the new version of Fantasy Island (ABC). “I like that it will have a dark side,” the crafty actress quips, “and maybe there’ll be some cute guys on it.”
Jason George placed lifeguard extraordinaire Michael Bourne on Sunset Beach but that doesn’t mean he’s a Baywatch fan. Meaty dramas like Law and Order and homicide get his heart racing. Contemplating his own place in TV Land, he asserts: “The stigma against soap actors is wearing off. Look at Anne Heche, who got her start on Another World.” Never at a loss for words, the smoldering star has less enthusiasm for UPN’s Legacy, a family drama set in post-Civil-War Kentucky. “This one may be safe for family viewing,” the daredevil says, “but I’ll be out at a club.”
