Celebrity Interview: Carmen Electra

Excerpt from Playgirl, July 2003

Sexy Carmen Electra is the host of Livin’ Large, she’s dancing burlesque with the Pussycat Dolls and she’s the future Mrs. Dave Navarro. Carmen shares some beauty tips and some regrets with us and she vowed to keep her impending nuptials large this time!

You are gorgeous! What are your secrets?

Thank you so much! I am big on getting eight hours of sleep every night and I just think that changes everything. I was such a night owl when I was younger and I always had a hard time getting up for school. I drink a lot of water, too. And I recently started taking salmon pills. It sounds weird, but they’re really great for your skin.

What is one of the coolest segments you’ve taped for Livin ‘ Large?

Probably going to the Lakers game. We got to go back into the locker room and interview all the players and basically had front row seats.

What are some of the neatest places you’ve visited while taping the show?

We shot in Hawaii at a Buddhist temple. I had so much fun there—I loved it! You get to feed the fish and these birds would come eat out of the palm of your hand. I’ve done things that I normally wouldn’t do and gone to places I normally wouldn’t have, so doing the show gets me out to do new things. I’ve also learned how to make sushi—spicy tuna roll with smelt eggs!

How do you “live large”?

To me, living large is all about the other side that people don’t really get to see. People only see your image and what you look like on TV and the roles you play. I think the greatest part is the part that no one knows about, the real parts of life and the sweeter parts of life, like my relationship with Dave. And family is number one. I can’t wait to actually start a family!

When are we going to hear those wedding bells ringing?

Next year sometime.

What will the wedding be like?

I want to have a big wedding. I don’t want to make the same mistake I made last time—you know, the spontaneous Vegas thing. That was just stupid! [Laughs.]

We all live and learn!

When that happened, I felt like I was the only one. But then I met so many people who said [lowering her voice], “I got married in Vegas too and I’m sorry I did it!” Biggest mistake of my life. I’ll do it right this time.

You and Dave are really adorable together.

Thank you! Dave and I are very happy together, we really are.

Do you get to spend a lot of quality time together or do other commitments get in the way?

We work it out. For us, we sift through everything and make time for each other. It’s definitely a priority.

Is Dave a romantic kind of guy?

He’s more romantic than I am! He’s teaching me to be more romantic.

What does he do to show he’s romantic?

I can’t tell you that! [Laughs.]
